I just got one of these and was charging it for the first time via DC as per the instructions. It only charged for about 30 minutes before I heard a pop and the LED went out. The AC to USB converter died. IceTech’s customer service was actually very responsive, but since I needed a functioning device ASAP, I was unable to follow through with them. It should be noted that this device is NOT iPhone 3g compatible.

I really like this battery, its so easy to use. It works fine with my cellphone and my Mp4 player. Like it a lot, just bought another one for my brother.

Icetech I101 Portable Solar Charger/Battery
This is a small device that does a good job to recharge cell phones, PDAs and other small devices. It comes with USB connectors and adapters for most cell phones. It did not work with my Nokia 6085 (the phone says that the charger is not compatible) but worked fine with a Motorola Razor and iPods. This is a basic item, no charge indicator or anything but it works fine if you are on the go and don’t have extravagant needs. The price is really good.

Summary:
* Supplier was depressingly slow to ship
* Doesn’t work with my 3G iPhone (yet)
So I bought this little solar charger gadget thingy hoping to charge my iPhone when I go camping. It ended up taking the company over a week to ship it out, so i got it after my camping trip.
Once I got it, I followed the instructions and charged it up, and was excited because it came with a female USB port on the cord. Unfortunately, my phone will not charge via USB using this connector. I was able to however charge my Bluetooth headset using the USB cord. Seems like a pretty slick device.
I was going to send it back, but I decided to take a gamble and order the adapter sold on the Icetech company website for 13 bucks (including shipping). [..]
I noticed one of the other reviewers mentioned this as a solution. Feel like a bait and switch sucker, but I really want the convenience of charging the phone away from home.
On a final note, I sent the company an email for tech support to make sure I’m not doing something wrong, but I only got an automated response that someone would get back to me… Really made me feel good about my money I spent (sarcasm).
Total cost so far is 46 bucks and I don’t even know if it works for my iPhone.

So far my experience has not been positive.
Battery level indicator does not seem to work.
On/Off switch does not seem to do anything. Unit always on.
Does not come with iPhone adapter, but does have a female USB adapter.
When connected to iPhone, nothing happens, regardless of iphone state.
It does seem to charge an old Motorola L7 I have, and it is small and light. Otherwise, I am disappointed.
