What should I do when the solar blanket on my pool is disintegrating?
Just bought a house with a pool. I think we have an imbalance of chemicals, which is why the solar blanket is losing its bubbles. Is this toxic or dangerous? Can I still use the damaged blanket once I correct the chemicals? What is the life of a solar blanket anyways?

You should have had an inspection service check the pool BEFORE you bought the house. If there was a problem, you could have required the seller to fix it before you bought the place.

Now, your best solution is to have a pool service some in and check the pool. Ask for them to check the pump, the chemical levels, and to look for leaks. You should then ask how to do routine checks on your own.

I hope this helps.

What you have is an aged solar blanket, UV degradation to be exact.
Unfortunately, they only last about 2 years in southern climates like Florida. Mine start popping the tops off the bubbles slowly at first then they all start coming off.
I really doubt that a chemical imbalance is causing the problem.
Yes you can keep using the blanket, but those little pieces of vinyl will make your filter clog faster.
I have not found that the more expensive covers last any longer so I just use the Blue ones and stretch their life as far as I can.
BTW, I don’t use the cover for solar purposes, I use it because it greatly reduces chemical consumption and all but stops evaporation.
(You may be amazed at how much water you have to replace due to evaporation!) Hope this helps.
