Solar “Death Ray”: Power of 5000 suns!

default Solar Death Ray: Power of 5000 suns!

The R5800 is my latest and greatest solar creation. Made from an ordinary fiberglass satellite dish, it is covered in about 5800 3/8" (~1cm) mirror tiles. When properly aligned, it can generate a spot the size of a dime with an intensity of 5000 times normal daylight. This intensity of light is more than enough to melt steel, vaporize aluminum, boil concrete, turn dirt into lava, and obliterate any organic material in an instant. It stands at 5'9" and is 42" across. Unfortunately, the R5800 was completely destroyed in a storage shed fire on December 14, 2010. music: "hypnothis" www.incompetech.com provided under creative commons liscence Coming spring of 2011: Sun Runner 3 R23000 (R23K) Area of dish aperture (elliptical)= (pi x 102cm? x 73cm)/4 = 5848 sq cm Area of focal point (circular)= pi(0.6cm)^2 = 1.14 sq cm Concentration Power= 5848/1.14 = 5129 then rounded down Output Power Estimate = 560 watts

Why don’t you build a little steam powerplant with this? (Place a large water-filled glass jar in front of it, so the focal point is in the middle of the water.) This way you could solve the world’s energy problems — every household has its own little powerplant…

that’s so good,i dont need more LP, can you put some corn pop¿?

  3. AcePilot101

You should develop this project to produce electric power.

  4. myguedes

    Coloca o dedo!

  5. chaosopher23

That’s quite powerful. Now, for the next project, scale it up to one of those old-school satellite dishes that needs a trailer to move around.

Experiment: See if you can get the air itself to crack with the addition of smoke to catch the rays.

@ProthoPectore Exactly. That combined with the conductivity of the thick metal. The spot is round the size of a dime. My goggles had two sets of #9 lenses just so i could look at it.

    @HornyBanjo
thats just how focused his beam is…..
you cant see the dot while its burnin becasue its so bright. the camera cant pick it up. mr. jacqmain is wearin weldin goggles so he can see the small focused beam…..

  8. HornyBanjo

Those are some serious heat-resistant pliers.

When I first read the title I was all like, “Oh man! this is gonna be great!” in expectation that is was going to be some huge ass laser light beam thingy that like, demolished buildings..But you know…what you did is cool too.

@M1kke1sen If it so fake why don’t you do us all a favor go stand in front of it.

Sadly the garage in the background is no longer with us. 100 of Eric’s neighbors (not to mention the local fire dept.) dislike this video.

Destroyed in a building fire… I’d bet my money that the “death ray” set it on fire… wouldn’t be surprised.

  25. wolf1234link

@EricJacqmain Oh that last part wasn’t aimed at you more at the dumb onlookers, i know there would be someone who wouldn’t know what i was talking about but yeah can’t wait to see the new design
