A bit side stepping this question’s answer, but still something to consider as substantial help for lowering your costs for solar panels, or as I am using solar curtains.
Energy Conservation Specialists scientifically advanced insulation products if your whole house is insulated with them will lower your energy bills by 80%. Simple to do either using the High R-value Ceramic Insulating Paints or the High R-value Radiant Barrier Foils on each exterior wall behind Wood Panel, Drywall or Plywood, plus attic is just a stretch and tack to open joist ends. Using the Radiant Barrier Foils this way alone is mocking the ECS Contest Model that continues to win every high energy efficiency contest for almost a decade now against all the other well known participating quality insulation manufacturers’ models.
Plus the ECS High R-value Products are reduced up to 3 to 4 lower costs buying direct from the manufacturer. Also you’ll find he mentions, if using his products over very expensive solar panels is a much less expensive alternative that actually stays more cost effective for a few decades time for paying for itself.
I first tried out the High R-value Ceramic Additives inside other manufacturers paints to lower my cost even more that brought High R-values but not as high as if I use ECS Insulating Paints directly. Than I used a exterior wall Radiant Barrier Layer behind Wood panel and now when using inexpensive but powerful solar curtains found on the Internet make the whole house become self sufficient during colder weather except for night times.
Insulation Projects are large, but for 80% energy savings this is done at very low cost. Solar Panels that cost much more might only give you 50% energy savings. Than sneaking in a small solar panel system along side of your 80% energy savings (or as I am using solar curtains that have the capability of generating at least 15,000 BTUs) is substantial help for keeping energy bills at their very minimum.

Listen to that insulation guy above, conservation and insulation is almost always your best first step.
Since you mention Kyocera, I assume that these are photovoltaic panels you’re interested in.
Kyocera is good, as is Mitsubishi, Suntech, and Sharp. Most roofs have more than enough area to accomodate even the least power efficient panels, so you might want to make your decision on the basis of cost efficiency. I would just go for best value after getting several professional quotes.
Panels from Sunpower are more power efficient than the brands above, but carry about a 30% premium in price per watt. My guess is that buyers of Sunpower are either desperate for area, or wealthy enough to care more about how the panels look than what they cost.
You really need to look at your energy useage, that will give you an idea of the scale of your solar power instalation. I can save however that if you buy the parts and assemble them yourself you’ll be paying about $150 per 1000w output, compared to from $1,200 to $1,500 for the same wattage if you buy prefabricated units and have them installed.
